The Beginning

In the Beginning there was only the Primal Darkness, that from which all that were, all that are, and all that will be come; where all that will never be, are not, and never were, reside; and to which all that has ever been returns. And the name of the Primal Darkness is Edar.

Edar, upon a whim, brought forth the Bright Lands. In play, Edar gave Breath to the Bright Lands and there was Air. In solemnity, Edar gave mass to the Bright Lands and there was Earth. In passion, Edar gave heat the Bright Lands and there was Fire. In wisdom, Edar gave flexibility to the Bright Lands and there was Water.

Edar sought within the Bright Lands and sensed that though the making was well done, the Lands were not complete. The Primal Darkness brought forth the First Child, the Dark Goddess Illyana to birth from Her womb souls and to reap them to Her breast when their time was past.

Edar listened to the Bright Lands and brought forth a Second Child, in the image of the Primal Darkness to hold Dominion over Air and Sound. The Second Child split in twain, though, and there was Temos and Thira.

Edar felt the textures of the Bright Lands and brought forth a Third Child, Levin, to hold Dominion over Earth.

Edar took in the taste and scent of the Bright Lands and brought fourth a Fourth Child, Berrin, to hold Dominion over Fire.

Edar gazed upon the Bright Lands and brought forth a Fifth Child, Cybel, to hold Dominion over Water.

And the Primal Darkness gave to the First Children this to know: the Bright Lands, and the Bright Gods, would have autonomy from Edar for only so long as the Primal Darkness wished Them to. On the day Edar was too strongly displeased by Them, the Primal Darkness would swallow back up that which Edar had brought forth.
