The Gift of Life

Illyana, seeing Her Siblings’ Domains, formed an Idea. She gathered together the First Children and sought with Them to give a physical form to the souls that She birthed in order that the souls might better know when their time was past and return to Her breast.

First did She seek to place souls within the elements of each Domain, separate from each other. Yet so strong was their bond with the elements in which they were placed that even after the destruction of their physical forms the souls retained the identity of their elements and became part of Her Siblings’ Domains, never to know the comfort of Her succor.

Thinking to save the souls She birthed such confusion, Illyana then sought with Her Siblings to create forms of mixed elements in which to place the essence of Her Domain. Berrin, though, in fury refused to join His Domain with His Siblings’ and withheld His passion. The forms created of this fusion knew no sickness or fullness of age and only returned to the Dark Goddess when, by accident or by design, they were brought to fade. And thus were the Immortals born.

Still Illyana did not give up Her Idea. She sought out Her brother Berrin and implored Him to relent. Frustration brought sorrow to Her heart and Berrin, alarmed that She might learn His Passion, acceded only after securing the Dark Goddess’ promise to never seek a physical Domain.

Together, all Six of the Bright Gods created the forms of Mortal Life.
